I have an old toaster oven. When you are toasting something, it makes a clicking noise as the timer goes down. Because the number of appliances we have is greater than the number of outlets, the toaster oven often gets unplugged. Unfortunately, the toaster oven makes the clicking noise whether the toaster is plugged in or not. So this morning, I put some bread in the toaster, set the timer, and walked away. After waiting for a while, I thought, “Um, I should have heard the timer by now.” I walked out to the kitchen and looked at the toaster and then looked at the empty outlet and sighed.
